Power4Youth off to a camp meeting in Amsterdam

Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile… how cool is that!

Yet again, Bernard Grima, Jean Kennedy, Hava Ryustem and Rinske Mansens, members from Power4Youth will be meeting with UEF(Universal Education Foundation) to discuss the vision of learning for well-being. UEF vision is about realizing our full potential. It builds on the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child, it reflects the four pillars defined by the report to UNESCO of the International Commission on Education for the Twenty-first Century: learning to know, learning to do, learning to be and learning to live together, and it supports the World Health Organization definition of health: Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

Well-being is realizing one’s unique potential through physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and social development … in relation to self, others, and the environment.

UEF definition of well-being is congruent with the definitions of many international organizations.

Tell-the-world

Dear Youth Network,

Power4Youth is be one of most evolving European youth in care networks; volunteering so youth with alternative care experience can have equal opportunities to develop, to be a voice and to make changes through involvement, empowerment and support. Together with other dedicated youths from Bulgaria, Norway, Croatia, Estonia, Ireland, Malta and The Netherlands, Power4Youth is building up a platform for young people in or from care to help them reach their full potential. We believe and endorse throughout our work: diversity, participation, commitment, inspiration and accountability.

Founded in Vilnius, Lithuania, in October 2009, Power4Youth turned out to be the source of youth energy for youths with alternative care experience across Europe. We are a group of young people from all types of care backgrounds, foster care, institutional care, SOS Children’s Village care and foster brothers and sisters. We run the network ourselves through a Board and a Committee structure and hope to apply for core funding and register soon so we can grow even more and reach out to other young people with care experience.

It all started in with personal life-skill training at The Hague (in the Netherlands) in October 2008. We believe that you are the expert of your own life experience and that expertise should be celebrated. The meeting in The Hague helped us build our skills so that we know how to use our voice but it also was the start of some beautiful friendships. Through Power4Youth, youths have, and will have a chance to meet with other young people from all over Europe, listen to their stories, learn and help out each other.

So, I encourage you to head to our Power4Youth website – www.power4youth.net – and get in touch with the team, subscribe to the group’s newsletters and stay connected with us on Facebook fun page!

Greetings from Malta in Europe,
